PORK CHOPS WITH CARMELIZED APPLES & ONIONS
My daughter has used white wine instead of beer when making this and raves that it is equally as delicious. A good gluten-free option.
PORK CHOPS WITH CARMELIZED APPLES & ONIONS
Keywords: saute fall
Ingredients
- 3 or 4 pork chops
- Salt & pepper
- 2 tbsp your favorite high-heat oil
- 2 apples, peeled and diced
- 2 small onions or 1 large, chopped
- Sugar - optional
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup beer or white wine
Instructions
Season pork with salt and pepper; bring to room temperature.
Dice 2 apples and two small onions in bite size pieces.
Heat fry pan to medium/high and brown pork chops on each side; set aside.
Add 2 tbsp butter to fry pan; add onions first and then apple; cook on medium/high to carmelize the onions and apples.
Sprinkle sugar over onions and apples to help brown. I used a sweeter beer - something like a honey brown beer, and didn’t use any sugar when carmelizing the onion.
Once carmelized, turn down heat and add 1 cup beer; reduce.
I turn heat off or to low and add pork chops back to pan over onions and apples and cover so that pork chops continue to cook. I find this keeps chops moist and they don't dry out.
